Good Christian Broadcasts?

I live in the middle of the Bible belt. TBN is disappointing, for the most part. Usually, it is broadcasting a charismatic preacher whose sermons are essentially self-perpetuating, about giving money to their TV ministry... so that the viewer will be blessed? Two alternatives to your typical evangelical programming are a new internet broadcast from Athens by True Love Waits and our own, Woodmont Baptist's Sunday service, broadcast live (mainly in middle Tennessee on ABC, but we've had satellite users all over the world who have written or emailed about being touched by our television broadcast).

I never did participate in True Love Waits, but it is a ministry about sexual abstinence for teens. All of us struggle with the pain and happiness of physical relationships - abstinence is one route that is worth praying about; your spouse will thank you. Promise Keepers is a similar ministry for older men committing to purity; Women of Faith being the female counterpart, to some extent. To be honest, I can't say whether I believe that these ministries are steering people in the right direction. They are very Fundamentalist programs, steering clear of feminism and focusing a lot on making sure that men become a family's leader, which I believe is unnessecary and overly traditional instead of practical.

I also mention Woodmont because we have been broadcasting our service for twenty years, mainly in middle Tenneessee. Our pastor announced last night that we have no choice but to shorten the hour broadcast down to thirty minutes. ABC is pushing Good Morning America on the weekends more now, so that compresses our time slot. Kind of sad for the many people who are members of our church through the television ministry. So if you've caught us live on Sunday mornings, 10:30-11:30am CST on ABC, we will only be airing for the latter thirty minutes, starting Sepetember 5th.
