A full summary (and photo album - I recommend using the slideshow feature) of our vacation in Santa Fe and Albuquerque this past week. Unlike my previous Glorieta trips, my wife was able to fly in to join me this Wednesday. I was overjoyed to have her with me. After running around on the job for another day, Megan and I drove off into the sunset for one of two nights at the Albuquerque Hampton.
The weather has worked out in everyone's favor this week. Glorieta staff was thanking me for bringing the rain. I was just glad that the weather was accurate in reporting clear skies today [Friday, note date stamps at the end of the entry] (identical tomorrow if we're lucky). While you can rarely capture the spirit of what you see in real life with a camera, I'm pretty happy with the digital shots so far. Hopefully we'll get some of Megan's photos scanned when she develops hers.
I'll let the pictures do the talking for the first half of our day at Sandia Peak. It was just above freezing at the top! We then drove out to Santa Fe for the rest of the evening. The Georgia O'Keeffe Museum was fabulous. What an amazing woman who spoke to the world through her paintings. The museum didn't take more than 45 min to go through, but what was on display puts to shame anything you've seen of hers in a book; can't beat the real thing. Afterwards, we drove around and took pictures of "the golden hour" (a photography term that we recently learned). Dinner afterwards at Tomasita's couldn't have been better; well, Megan's pork could have been more tender. New Mexico chile is irresistable, even if you don't like the stuff. Try Bobcat Bite near Glorieta for an unbeatable burger in the chile genre, too.
Saturday ended up being one of those laid back mornings. I've been very impressed with Hampton Inn - particularly enjoy a king sized bed! We did get out to Old Town Albuquerque (almost 300 years old), though. Dabbled around and drove along the Rio Grande River. Los Ranchos de Albuquerque lined that road and it was interesting to see the farmland fields and architecture there. Otherwise, we wasted way too much time in traffic that afternoon when we had wanted to visit the zoo.... Fortunately, our final destination at Petroglyph National Monument proved to be a spiritual ending to our stay at the Land of Enchantment. It was calming to explore hundreds of rock etchings by people over the course of thousands of years. The mystery and peacefulness of the land made us marvel at the diversity and plan of God's creation.
We caught our flight and were back in Nashville by 11:15pm. I'm glad we made it to Sunday school this morning as we had a lively discussion about submissiveness sparked by Colossians 3:18. In other fun news, I tested a new harness (somewhat successfully) for our dumb cat; want to be able to take her for walks since she spends all her time by the door anyway. Megan and I finally got the last piece of our bedroom set out of the garage and into its rightful place. The house is slowly but surely getting settled.... It's now time for bed as I conclude my final moments of a wonderful week. Back to work in a few hours!
