Update: Important extensions mentioned, Moox warning.
The official release of Firefox 1.0 came out this morning. For those unfamiliar with this Internet Explorer alternative, get a clue! Webgraphics (WG) mentions some optimized versions that are even faster than the official version. WG has also provided links to mirrors since the official site is very slow right now. I've downloaded MOOX M2 (Windows) [Update: after using Moox for a while, I would not recommend it]. You can download third party builds for other platforms on MozillaZine.
Firefox prereleases have been around for about two years, but the official version 1 is finally out. You might notice the StopIE and Get Firefox (the latter now in all the footers) links on Zepfanman.com. The StopIE Blog has a lot of related links (like Browse Happy and Switch2Firefox). Firefox has become so popular that there are even launch parties around the globe celebrating today's release!
If you'd like some quick convincing as to why Firefox is better than Internet Explorer: Tabs can organize multiple windows you have open, Nice CTRL+F find that highlights text as you type, faster but "lighter" than IE, and easy RSS and CSS tools integrated into the browser; see the Top 10. Despite Firefox's advantages, I'll be honest that every once and a while, you'll need to open up IE simply because most people design their websites for IE only, which is a bad idea. [Update: One huge advantage worth mentioning are the extensions available for Firefox, including some that emulate IE. I'm linking to the Mass Installer (and my file) so I can easily find this extension-building extension
(my own words) again.]
A couple other small points hardly worth mentioning. Just thought I'd point out that I realized my mistake about the Mozilla Clearing Bug, mentioned on that WG post; I can't tell if DutchCelt is confused like me or not. Another random point: Check out the Firefox logo in ASCII text (using the nifty Toogle site).

eWeek did a writeup on Firefox. I have yet to get my feet wet, but I hear it's great.
