Pee-wee and 10 Commandments

Okay, so the only thing these two subjects have in common is that they're being revived on film. E! Online reports that the shady Pee-wee has two more Herman movies planned. Alternatively, I heard on the radio this morning that FX, Clooney, and Soderbergh are creating a contemporary TV series about the Ten Commandments.

I had mentioned the possibility of Paramount making another feature length Ten Commandments, but news about that has been pretty quiet since July (I did find a good AICN article about it, though; speaking of which, they're hoping to do a redesign/revamp soon, so tell Harry to get on the web standards bandwagon!). Anyway, the new FX "Ten Commandments" TV series will probably be an interesting feat. What is Hollywood's contemporary take on "remember the sabbath day" or "you shall not make for yourself a graven image"? I have a feeling that the end result will not be as introspective as we'd like. It's supposed to be coming to us in January: ten hourlong episodes, each by a different director. (See Exodus 20 or Deuteronomy 5 for the real thing.)

Moving on to some pathetic news, Pee-wee is trying to make a comeback. His 80s TV show is going to be released on DVD next Tuesday in two sets. Pee-wee (AKA Paul Reubens) also has two new movies planned! Is E! kidding? "Now that his legal woes are behind him," and "The actor is hoping that the release of Pee-wee's Playhouse on DVD will introduce Pee-wee to a new generation of fans." Good luck, buddy. I loved Pee-wee's Big Adventure as a kid, but this attempt at a comeback will probably be as pathetic as Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles. See what others have to say about this on BoingBoing.
