Stick it to The Man. Download a torrent client and grab some 24 (Kiefer Sutherland) episodes from Orb's Torrent Site Status (Suprnova recently met its demise) - Torrent Typhoon seems to be a good new meta search service, too. While Blockbuster is ten times worse, Megan and I were a little disappointed with Hollywood Video last night.
Three days ago, we discovered a whole shelf of 24 DVDs on the MVP club. We had never seen the show and were impressed after watching the first eight episodes of season one. When we came back to rent the other episodes, the MVP stickers had been removed. One of the employees came over and said, Sorry, corporate had us remove all MVP stickers from 24.
I'm guessing that they're not making out very well with this promotion. Employees have probably been instructed to plug the Movies & Munchies combo, too. The guy who checked us out was almost comical in his apathetic push to sell us some overpriced snacks. I must say, though, that the MVP certainly is nice. 75% of the films in the store are marked for unlimited use (three or less at a time) as long as you've paid the monthly fee: $10 first 3 promo months, $20 following.
Granted, my anger at HV probably doesn't warrant ripping off 24 online, but how else can you get back at the movie rental industy? Get Netflix?
While I haven't tried it myself, there is a new technique going around called broadcatching. You can basically automate the retrieval of the latest episodes of popular shows. Here are some other good resources on the topic: engadget's How-To: BroadCatching using RSS + BitTorrent to automatically download TV shows and How to never miss and episode with BitTorrent and RSS from pealco.net.
