Ebla Forum projects

I'd first like to mention the new Biblical Studies Carnival (closing Apr3) in which you might consider participating. This is part of The Ebla Forum community, fast becoming a great resource for those interested in religious and cultural studies. There are several projects going on within this young internet group (started in December 2003 by Joel Ng and Peter Kirby). I discovered the website this December when I was looking for help with a possible Scripture Database. I've dipped my toes in a few of the Ebla projects, but I thought it would make more sense to highlight some of the major areas that make this scholarly set of resources so great!

  • Ebla Forum discussion (powered by phpBB) - Over 400 members have contributed to this main hub of the Ebla Forum. It consists of a section linking to the Library and then usually related discussions on the boards. The Ebla Forum focuses mainly on the humanities and sciences. Topics are broken down into several categories such as current affairs, arts, humanities, philosophy, science, religious studies, archeology, and history. The White Rock Café board is also in this section, where people in the community can get to know each other.
  • TheoWiki (powered by MediaWiki) - I was recently doing some more planning for the above-mentioned Scripture Database when I ran across TheoWiki, started by Mr. Kirby. I'm pretty excited about this as I think it meets a need very close to what I've been brainstorming; I signed up as a contributor right away. There isn't an About page yet, but TheoWiki is basically a visitor-edited encyclopedia focusing on the history of religious and ethical thought. It's not officially a part of Ebla Forum, but the site owner is an Ebla frequenter and moderator.
  • Ebla Logs (powered by WordPress) - I haven't had a lot of time to look through the discussion boards, so this new blog has been a great RSS feed to subscribe to. The blog is updated less frequently, so it summarizes what's been going on in the forum. The Biblical Studies Carnival was recently announced here, but I'm not sure what its final format will look like. Hopefully, they'll accept my Canon Doubt entry from November!

Hi,

Just so you know, the name "White Rock Study" is scrapped in favour of the simpler "Ebla Logs". I had a look at your Canon Doubt, and it's a good entry, but just a little on the short side. Perhaps you might be interested in expanding a bit more on Pagels' book (I've never read it, to be honest)?
