The recommendation for me to take state route 14 instead of interstate 25 was an excellent one. I made my regular drive from Glorieta to Albuquerque this afternoon. Several staff members took me to lunch at Copa de Oro and suggested I try a more scenic route this time. This took me into the mountains on the east side of Sandia Peak. A few shots from my Treo was the best I could capture on camera....
One of the highlights of the hour long side trip was the drive through Madrid: the epitome of an old coal mining turned arts and crafts village community. The quarter mile stretch through downtown is quaint and cozy. It was amusing to see a banner for the upcoming Gypsy Festival.
The most inspiring part of the ride was looking at the sky above the mountains. New Mexico is called the Land of Enchantment, but I'd like to add to that: Magical Skies. Take my word for it. It's hard to beat a double rainbow.
