While much of Led Zeppelin's plans for the coming year have been kept under wrap, here are several articles pertaining to some DVDs and audio CDs that will be released sometime in early 2003. The first article comes straight from the horse's mouth, famous producer Kevin Shirley.

CavemanProductions.com: October journal (see esp. the 18th)

"It is quite well known now, that there's new Zep music forthcoming, and it's a huge privelege to be working with Jimmy Page on the Zeppelin stuff, and more than that I haven't said. I do not know the project title, or anything else that you cannot get from [Led-Zeppelin.com], it is as up-to-date as anyone's, and even Jimmy says he does a great job!! All I can say is .... get your better half to get you a DVD player and a real 5.1 system set up for Xmas, and if you're anything of a fan - you're in for a massive treat. I've always been a huge fan, but after this - I'm convinced of the geniuses involved, and believe there was never a band with such a chemistry in rock! Miles and Coltrane in Jazz maybe, Barenboim and Du Pre in classical, but in rock it must be the all four of them!"

ICE Magazine - December '02

WHEN LED ZEPPELIN OFFICIALY disbanded in the waning days of 1980 after drummer John Bonham’s untimely death three months earlier, fans clung to one consolation. At last, many hoped, guitarist Jimmy Page would put together the long-promised live anthology that would showcase the best live band of the ’70s in peak form.

What they got instead was two decades of waiting. Except for 1982’s studio-heavy Coda and 1997’s live BBC Sessions (along with a handful of tracks scattered across three box sets), the Zeppelin vaults have remained officially closed. That’s all about to change in a big way, with a double-DVD of live footage and the first in what may be a series of audio-only live releases.

While still wrapped in secrecy, details have leaked via singer Robert Plant and soundman Kevin Shirley, who mixed the music.

The DVDs and CDs were once planned for a Christmas release, but they now look to be ready for a March 2003 release that should please fans (and not coincidentally, set up the much-rumored reunion tour for next summer).

Shirley’s official Web site declared the project finished on October 24, saying, "Led Zep is a wrap!" He dropped other small hints about his five months mixing the project at Page’s direction, including the fact that "Bring It on Home" from Royal Albert Hall would be included. Plant varied the song’s lyrics significantly at the January 9, 1970 gig.

"It’s sitting on my table about 25 yards from here right now," singer Robert Plant recently told ICE from his home in Britain. "It’s looking like two VHS’s at the moment. But it’s looking good. Some great footage, very exciting visuals."

Undercover Music News: October 23

You always know there is more to a story when a band goes as far as issuing a press release to deny a rumour. Led Zeppelin have officially stated this week that they are not reuniting in 2003.

So what's happening in the Led Zep camp and where are the stories coming from? It would appear the first sign of activity came directly from producer Kevin Shirley himself who blocked out most of this year in his online diary with the name 'Led Zeppelin'. Shirley has been working on Led Zep but it is not a new album.

In 2003 we can expect a DVD release of remastered Led Zeppelin works including previously unreleased material. What makes the 'previously unreleased' part interesting is that Robert Plant and Jimmy Page have both previously stated that there is no unreleased material. The few songs they didn't release when they were together have now come out on the boxed set and compilation albums.

Apparently this new batch of 'previously unreleased' material will be live songs and video footage. Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones are all said to be actively involved with the project.

A statement from their band's management company says "Recent reports concerning an alleged Led Zeppelin reunion are completely speculative. We don't know where these stories are coming from, certainly not from anyone in our management offices. There is no tour, there are no plans for a tour and no discussions about any tour have taken place."
