Favorite Bands - here is some info and links to some great groups (in order from my favorite to least favorite)
Led Zeppelin was one of the longest running, most popular rock groups of all time. Jimmy Page defined the rock style that started in the late 60s and carried the group through to the early 80s when Zeppelin's phenomenol drummer, John Bohnam, died and the band fell apart. Payable On Death (popularly known as P.O.D.) are my heroes, hehe. Nah, just one of the best Christian hard rock bands I've ever heard. Really sweet stuff. You've probably heard "Southtown," "Rock the Party,", "Alive", "Boom", "Youth of the Nation", and "Sleeping Awake" (from Matrix Reloaded).Stavesacre
\Staves"a`cre\, n. [Corrupted from NL. staphis agria, Gr. ? dried
grape + ? wild.] (Bot.) A kind of larkspur ({Delphinium Staphysagria),
and its seeds, which are violently purgative and emetic. They are used
as a parasiticide, and in the East for poisoning fish.
Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary (1913), Dict.org
Can I add that they're a quality hard rock band, too?
The most thoughtful Christian lyrics I've ever heard....
Stavesacre.com - by far the best site
out there on this incredible band
Stavesacre.... Discovering
Absolutes - hasn't been updated in years, but good intro
NitroRecords.com 2002 Oct. 1 new album release date on this new
label they've signed on to. Recording started 2002 May 31.
ToothAndNail.com is their old label
Davdon Artist Industry:
Stavesacre letter - their touring agency adds a personal touch
Rage
Against The Machine / AudioSlave
- Rage, Cornell Unshackle Audioslave (2002 Sept. 20)
- Zack goes solo! (2000 Oct. 19)
- Sweet Spin Magazine article, not long after Battle...
(March 2000)
RATM has one of the best guitar players of modern rock. While his style
may not be as attractive and controlled as Jimmy Page's, Tom Morrello
can make just about any type of sound come out of his guitar. Be
sure to pick up the 2002 Nov. 19 new album by AudioSlave (Rage without
Zack - I know, hard to imagine, but they rock as hard as ever).
AudioSlave Online -
with the depth of this site, you'd have thought this band has been out
for years. By far the best AudioSlave site so far.
ChrisCornell.com
Forum - the most active forum page about Cornell and Audioslave.
AudioSlaveMusic.com is the
official site of the "new Rage" with Chris Cornell replacing Zack on
vocals.
ChrisCornell.cc (Jeff's Soundgarden
Page) - good all-around fan site of the "band history" of
Cornell.
Angry Soul - another good Rage
site with lots of resources.
RATM: The Complete Site - up
there with Angry Soul.
RATM.com & Epic/Sony RATMare the official sites, but they pretty much stink.
Those are the four bands I give the most credit.
However, I do listen to the radio a lot and like many other bands.
Aerosmith, Beck, the Beastie Boys, the Black Crowes, Cake, the Crash
Test Dummies, Cream, Creedence, Dada, Dave Matthews Band, the Foo
Fighters, Jethro Tull, Jimi Hendrix, Los Lobos, Pink Floyd, Police, the
Presidents (of the USA), Queen, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sheryl Crow,
Stevie Ray Vaughan, The Who, and Yes are also good listening. See
Band Specific Links for more about
some of these bands!
"GOD IS DEAD." - NIETSCHE
"NIETSCHE IS DEAD." - GOD
"Funny.... I just talked to him this morning." - Billy Graham, in
reply to the first statement.
I actually got rid of most of my secular CDs a few summers ago (2000). I've been discovering more and more good Christian bands; in the past, it seemed to me like they didn't have the talent that secular bands have. I'm now convinced that there are many good Christian artists out there. So far, I'm a big fan of P.O.D., Switchfoot, Grammatrain (broke up and now the singer Peter Stewart has been involved with several projects), Grits, Nichole Nordeman, Stavesacre, and Skillet. Although I wasn't at the Caedmon's Call concert in Vanderbilt's Langford Auditorium on 9/29/98, I heard that this Christian band made a good point. They were playing poplular 80s secular hits and someone in the audience got upset. The lead singer of the Call said to relax. He said that any band can show the truth about God. Just because someone isn't Christian doesn't mean that they don't know some of God's truths. This is my only excuse for buying secular music even though 90% of the songs are about sex and money.
