About Zepfanman.com

When you can't find it on Google, I want to help. I've been excited about the global reach of the Internet since our family got its first dial-up service in 1995. People are always looking for their own way to do things, but online you can bet that someone has already ________ (fill in your passion). We need to do a better job of making information more accessible and compatible - there are too many different technologies... to be continued.

Unfortunately, this page needs a lot of work. I used to have a Site Map on it, but like a lot of other things on Zepfanman.com, I haven't decided how I want to redesign it yet. The FULL MENU is a pretty good Site Map anyway. I've been trying to be very careful and read up on all the latest design tips - number one is to separate content from presentation as much as possible. See Step 6 below. The Blog has been the most developed part of this new site, so you can check out my blog FAQ for that; the FAQ includes a ? about standards (CSS, XHTML, accessibility) and syndication (RSS, Atom, RSD) for that; I created an autobiographical Moments in the Life... entry, as well.

In addition to the Stage 7 accessibility makeover, I'm also developing a Help page which will include PC repair tips, WWW design and search tips, and possibly help on using Zepfanman.com, if it's not covered on this page. For web lingo, I recommend typing it into Answers.com or trying my search box to see if I've already mentioned it on my own site - likely in the blog. Edited '05Jun21

My Profile
History of the Zepfanman Site
STAGE 1: GeoCities.com 1998 Sept. 22

I had been gathering a list of links that I had come across on the WWW for a year or so.  It came to a point where I wanted to create a place where I could easily access all these links.  I will admit that, from the beginning, my site has mainly been a fun depository of links that I can easily navigate to.

Led Zeppelin Evermore - I did have a focus (even at day one) for the website: a starting point for all Zep fans searching for more info about the band.

STAGE 2: Crosswinds.net Date?

My GeoCities space started to fill up, so I decided to go hunting for a different free host that offered more megabytes of storage on their servers.

STAGE 3: T35.com Date?

Crosswinds turned out to be very unreliable, actually losing my site due to the servers crashing (this happened to me MORE than once, too).

STAGE 4: One2Host.com & domain (Zepfanman.com)! 2002 April

I will stick this one out for at least two years. What I had thought looked like a great deal turns out to be, on further inquiry, kind of a scam. I should have taken my friend Jamie's advice and taken up Your-Site.com. The one thing I do like about One2Host is that you can easily switch to an ASP account, which I'd like to learn in the near future.

STAGE 5: 1and1.com aka 1&1 2004 Jan. 17

Now I have two websites, but only one with the domain at a time! I just wanted to sign up for this amazing deal before it ran out (Jan. 22). My brother has been on it for a few months with no complaints. I agree; can't beat 500MB, 5GB transfer/month limit, 3 YEARS FREE. After three years, who knows; I can always transfer again. I think PHP is the direction I'd like to go with this one (like my friend Jeff's page)

STAGE 6: CSS Layout 2004 Jul. 9

Unlike this and many other pages on the site right now, I've made the decision to attempt web compliance. The former Zepfanman.com/beta site is now my actual homepage. Things won't be pretty on the site for a while, but you gotta start somewhere. You can also now enjoy the new /blog (FAQ) and /gallery features brought to you by MovableType.org and Gallery.Menalto.com. Go to index_old.html if you need a link from there, alternatively you may just want to reminisce or compare the old with the new. The new site tag: Your starting point for finding the web's most fun & useful links (particularly in one of the categories listed in the right column).

Other pages in my site:

Beliefs - my religion, moral values, and Christian links

Led Zeppelin - My religion and moral values. Not really, just a great rock group. This page will eventually have info on each album and many songs.

Rock Music - and anything that will become Classic Rock.  Comments, links, and LYRICS!

Movies - I've seen too many, too many times. Links and commentary.

J. J.'s Links - A page of hundreds of categorized links collected over the years:
- Reference - Service & Activities - Genealogy - Artwork - Music - Movies - Misc.. - Friends -
