I recently discovered that Spotify can link up natively with Last.fm. I’ve been using Last.fm to “scrobble” music that I listen to from various devices since 2006. In the last few years, I hadn’t kept up with the lastest scrobbling apps, but earlier this summer I got it going again. Here are some screenshots from my library.
Let’s start with recent stuff I’ve been listening to. I got hooked on the new GIMME SOME TRUTH remixes from Sean and Yoko, celebrating what would be John Lennon‘s 80th birthday. The new Tool album has renewed my interest in the band, and their 1996 release Ænima is one of my favorites.
I don’t have too much to say about my top artists in the last 90 days. Queen is a perennial favorite, and I get on random-artist-or-song kicks sometimes, like Cat Stevens, R.E.M., and Serge Gainsbourg (“Je t’aime… moi non plus” with Jane Birkin).
Expanding to music from the past year, you can see some more evidence of song obsessions. A good example is Linkin Park‘s new Hybrid Theory 20th anniversary album – there’s a great demo of “In the End” with alternate lyrics. Jimi Hendrix I listen to frequently. And “Amethyst Realm” is an epic track from The Claypool Lennon Delirium worth checking out. You can see on the right that I wasn’t scrobbling anything at all before May as I didn’t have Last.fm hooked into my playing devices.
My all-time albums aren’t the best representation of my favorite artists. Ghosts and Late Night Tales are great background/sleep albums. The former I pared down in a playlist of my favorite tracks.
